Frequently Asked Questions for Creatives

What is Catapult?
Catapult is a stock agency, as well as a photo agency. We offer thousands of one-of-a-kind royalty free and rights managed images. We also represent a growing number of ultra-talented photographers from all over the country. Our seasoned professionals are available for your next assignment.

How do I hire a photographer?
Hiring one of our photographers is easy. Simply email us at: info@catapultstock.com and briefly describe the project and the date(s) you need the photographer. We will contact the photographer and see if they’re available for the dates of your assignment. If not, we will recommend a suitable replacement.

How do I get started?
Getting started with Catapult is easy. Get inspired by looking at featured images in the Image Collections or if you know exactly what you need, use our advanced search tool to locate the perfect image for your project. From there, you can save images in a Lightbox or download the image immediately.

What is a Lightbox?
Lightboxes are your main interface for editing, saving and sharing images. There is no limit on how many lightboxes you can create. If you are managing a complex project, you may want to have a lightbox for different categories, photographers or jobs. If the project is simple with perhaps only one photographer or similar images, you might need only one lightbox.

How do I create a new Lightbox?

  1. From the Lightboxes menu at the top of the archive page, click Lightbox Management.
  2. From the Lightbox Management menu, click Create New Lightbox.
  3. Enter a name for the lightbox and then click Create Lightbox.

How do I add images to my lightbox?
Once the lightbox is created, you can add images to it immediately, or you can save it for later use. If you only have one lightbox in your account, it will always be the active lightbox. But when you have many lightboxes, you must choose an active lightbox to add images to. The active lightbox cannot be deleted. You can add an image to your lightbox from the group view page, image details page, search results page or anywhere you see the lightbox icon and link.

How do I remove images from my lightbox?
While viewing a lightbox, you can delete an image by clicking the Remove link under the image Actions menu. You can also delete from an image details page, by clicking the Remove Photo trashcan icon to the right of the previewed image.

Do the images have usage restrictions?
Catapult offers two types of license agreements: Royalty Free and Rights Managed.

What is the difference between royalty free and rights managed?

Rights-Managed Images
Rights-Managed (RM) products are high quality products with a license and fee based on a specific use. Pricing scales within the scope of the usage, and additional usages require additional payments to the copyright holder. All RM image licenses are negotiated and licensed by the archive owner using online image requests. The archive owner will take into consideration certain usage criteria to determine the correct license and pricing for any RM image, including:

  1. Type of Use (Web, Print, Display)
  2. Market (Editorial, Advertising, etc.)
  3. Uniqueness of image
  4. Size at which the image is used
  5. Circulation or other measure of exposure
  6. Geographic distribution or territories
  7. Term (time period) of license
  8. Level of exclusivity
  9. Language distribution

Royalty-Free Images
Royalty-free pricing is based solely on the size of the product you need, not the specific use. You don't have to pay any additional fees on a use-by-use basis. Once you purchase a royalty-free product, you may use it multiple times for multiple projects without paying additional fees. Royalty-free images offer creative professionals an alternative to right-managed imagery -- without sacrificing quality or creativity. Royalty-free products provide a solution for every budget, with few usage restrictions. Once you pay the fee for a royalty-free product, you can use the images as frequently and creatively as you'd like. (Pornographic, defamatory, libelous or otherwise unlawful use of any image is, of course, prohibited.)
